Lord Randolph Churchill, British statesman, 19th century. Lord Randolph Churchill (1849-1895) was the father of Winston Churchill. He was first elected to Parliament as Conservative MP for Woodstock, Oxfordshire, in 1874. His political career reached its peak in 1886 when he was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons, but he resigned in December of that year over differences with some of his colleagues in the government, and never returned to high office.
