Transcontinental Highway across the top of the Boulder Dam, Arizona/Nevada, USA, 1941. Postcard. Lake Mead, the reservoir formed behind the dam, is on the left is visible and rocky ledges are also visible. Also known as the Hoover Dam, the Boulder Dam was built in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River on the border between Nevada and Arizona between 1931 and 1936. The dam provides hydroelectic power to Arizona, Nevada and California.
