Portrait of Sir Marc Isambard Brunel, British engineer and inventor (1769-1849) with drawings and a model of the morticing machine of the Portsmouth blockmaking machine he made with machine builder Henry Maudslay. From 1825, Brunel was engaged, along with his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to construct the first Thames tunnel, which was completed in 1843. He also improved saw-mills and dockyard machinery at Chatham in Kent and Liverpool. Painting in the National Portrait Gallery, London. From "Bibby's Annual 1922", edited by Joseph Bibby. [J.
