'La Grange', c1833. Portrait of French mathematician Joseph Louis Lagrange (1736-1813), 'From a Bust in the Library of the Institute of France'. Lagrange is best known for his work on theoretical mechanics. In 1787 he published what is regarded as his masterpiece, 'Mecanique Analytique', a work consisting purely of algebraic operations without any explanatory diagrams or information.
