'The Coronation Chair', (1881). The Coronation Chair at Westminster Abbey in London, known historically as St Edward's Chair or King Edward's Chair, is an ancient wooden throne on which the British monarch sits when he or she is invested and crowned during coronation. Commissioned in 1296 by King Edward I, the chair is kept in Edward the Confessor's shrine. Beneath it is the Stone of Scone.
