Légende

'The Albert Memorial Chapel Windsor, on the Occasion of the Funeral of H.R.H. The Duke of Clarence, January 1892', (c1897). 'The Duke's coffin stands between the tomb of the Prince Consort at the further end and that of the Duke of Albany (who died in 1884) at this end of the Chapel'. Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale (1864-1892), died of pneumonia before he was thirty. The eldest son of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), Prince Albert Victor's life has been wrapped in secrecy and scandal. He is thought to have visited a male brothel, to have fathered an illegitimate child by a married woman, and was for a time rumoured to have been Jack the Ripper. From Sixty Years A Queen: The Story of Her Majesty's Reign, by Sir Herbert Maxwell. [Harmsworth Bros, Limited, London, c1897]
