Ecce homo (behold the man), are the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate when he presented Jesus Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before his Crucifixion. Depictions of the Ecce Homo were highly popular within Spain during the Counter Reformation. Oil on canvas. Held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. From Galerias De Europa: Museo Del Prado, by A. De Beruete y Moret & Augusto L. Mayer. [Editorial Labor, S.A., Barcelona, c1934]
