Légende

'His progress was as that of a king', c1912 (1912). After the battle of Zama in 202 BC, the Carthaginian army had been wiped out. Hoping for mercy, the Carthaginian ambassadors met with Publius Cornelius Scipio. Scipio allowed them to remain as a free nation, but demanded extensive compensation for breaking the truce. Scipio returned to Rome victorious and was henceforth known as Scipio Africanus. From The Story of Rome, by Mary MacGregor. [Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd., 1912]
