The raising of Cespedes. With 35 men in the early morning of 10 October 1868 , Cespedes revolted in ' La Demajagua' ten leagues from Manzanillo. He gave freedom to his slaves and addressed the people of Yara, he then led the people of Yara in the first battle between the Spanish and Cubans at four in the afternoon.
