'Tom Spring's second fight with Jack Langan', 1824 (late 19th or early 20th century). An illustration from Famous Fights. English heavyweight boxer Tom Spring (1795-1851) was English champion from 1821 until 1824. He fought Ireland's Jack Langan twice, winning both bouts, but was forced to retire after the second fight because of the extent of the damage to his hands.
