Osceola, Chief of the Seminoles, c1837 (c1880). Osceola was a war chief who led a small band of warriors in the Second Seminole War which broke out when the US Government attempted to have the Seminoles removed from their lands in Florida. He was captured by deceit after agreeing to attend peace talks at Fort Payton in October 1837 and died in captivity less than three months later. From Catlin's North American Indians.
