Tony Curtis, American film actor, 20th century. Curtis made his screen debut in 1948 in Criss Cross. His career reached its peak in the late 1950s when he starred in films such as The Defiant Ones, for which he received an Oscar nomination, and Some Like it Hot. In the 1960s he starred alongside Roger Moore in the popular television series The Persuaders.
