Loggia dei Lanzi, Piazza della Signoria, Florence, Italy, 1882. The Piazza della Signoria is an L-shaped square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. It was named after the Palazzo della Signoria, also called Palazzo Vecchio, the town hall of Florence, seen here on the left. The Loggia dei Lanzi is an arched open-air sculpture gallery of antique and Renaissance art, built in the late 14th century. Just visible on the right is "The rape of the Sabine Women" by Giambologna. From "Florence", by Charles Yriarte, translated by CB Pitman and published by Sampson Low (London, 1882).
