The Queen's Reception in Hyde Park, London, c1840s, (1900). A reception for Queen Victoria after the news of Oxford's attempt on her life. Three attempts were made on the queen's life between 1840 and 1842, by Edward Oxford, John Francis, or John William Bean. Oxford was found to be insane and transferred to a criminal lunatic asylum, Francis received the sentence of 'Transportation for Life, with hard labour', and Bean was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment.
