James Russell Woodford, Bishop of Ely, 1880. In 1869 he received a Doctorate in Divinity, and in 1872 was appointed one of the queen's chaplains. In 1873 he became Bishop of Ely; his consecration taking place in Westminster Abbey. He was instrumental in reconstructing the cathedral school at Ely, and also establishing the theological college at Ely. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
