Sir John Mellor, judge of the High Court of Justice, 1880. He was called to the bar in 1833, and became a queen's counsel in 1851. He was a member of the special commission which tried three Fenian prisoners at Manchester in 1867. They were convicted for the murder of an unarmed policeman, whilst trying to free two Fenian leaders. The execution of the men caused a public outrage.
