Union Street, built with Aberdeen Granite, Aberdeen Scotland, c1960s. Union Street is a major street and shopping thoroughfare in Aberdeen, named after the Acts of Union 1800. It was built as an elevated street to relieve the strain on surrounding streets. Designed in early 19th century under plans suggested by Charles Abercrombie, its construction nearly bankrupted the city.
