Légende

Wucai saucer with luohan on rush mat, Late Ming dynasty, China, 1621-1644. Foliated saucer with shallow petal moulded sides. The saucer is painted in the central shaped panel with a luohan (a disciple of the Buddha), wearing turquoise robes seated on a rush matt under a tree within a segmented border of alternating underglaze blue and overglaze red diaper patterns. Beneath is a wide border of six panels with pine, prunus and bamboo alternating with floral rossettes. The rim is dressed with brown enamel and the base has the character for good fortune 'fu'.
