Ding yao lotus pod shaped bowl with moulded phoenixes, Jin dynasty, China, 12th century. A small Ding yao lotus pod shaped bowl very finely moulded with two long-tailed phoenixes in flight amid convolvulus. The bird's duck-like beaks are holding tendrils and a mono key fret border. The small centre has a three petalled flower, all under a fine creamy white Ding Yao glaze. The reverse is plain, the foot and rim are unglazed.
