White jade broad-tailed sheep , Northern Song dynasty, China, 960-1127. A 'lychee-flesh' white jade broad-tailed sheep in seated position. The animal is very statuesque, and has a beard and fat broad tail. There is minimal decoration on the piece but good detail especially on its face which is carved in three planes.
