Camphor wood standing female figure, China, c206 BC-c8 AD. Western Han dynasty large standing figure of a woman in Western Han style with a close-fitting dress covering the legs and a rather flat face with a pigtail at the back. The arms are bent at the elbow and covered with hanging sleeves. The lower part is presented in a pyramid-like form with knees slightly bent. The figure is painted extensively on the body with red and white pigments. The face, arms and protrusions of the figure are built up of wood blocks fused to the basic flat central wood plane.
