Wucai dish with dragons, phoenixes and floral scrolls, Kangxi period, Qing dynasty, China, 1662-1722. A wucai dish of saucer shape decorated in wucai (5 colour) enamels including underglaze blue with scaly dragons and flying phoenixes among chrysanthemum and peony blooms and dense foliate scrolls, arranged in a medallion within a frieze repeated on the underside. 6 character Xuande mark in underglaze blue in double circle on the base. Dragon and phoenix dishes and bowls in wucai polychrome colours were popular imperial ceramics, the dragon represents the Emperor and the phoenix the Empress.
