Pottery he with S-stampings, early Warring States period, China, late 5th-early 4th Century BC. A three-legged pottery vessel in the shape of a bronze he kettle. The spout is formed by a two-horned stylised dragon's head with a high handle on the back of which appear appliques which could represent the dragon's tail. The body of the vessel is stamped with two bands of horizontal S's and two bands of vertical S's, and two simulated ring appliques at right angles to the handle on either side of the mouth. The round domed cover with pointed finial is stamped with similar S bands and one band of straight vertical lines; the vessel and cover have a rich brown glaze, pooling in places.
