Heaven Room, Bolsover Castle

Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire. Interior view of the Heaven Room. The frieze opposite the window. The ceiling, painted in 1619, shows Christ's ascension to heaven surrounded by angels. Angels in the outer circle carry garlands of flowers, and various musical instruments, including a violin and trumpets. The Heaven Room in the 'Little Castle' is one of two small closets opening off the master bedchamber. Bolsover Castle was rebuilt in the 17th century.
