Portrait of Joseph Bonaparte, King of Spain, c1810. Painting captured at Vitoria in 1813. The elder brother of Napoleon, Joseph Bonaparte (1768-1844) was installed on the Spanish throne by his brother in 1808, ruling as Jose I. He abdicated after the British commanded by the Duke of Wellington defeated the French at the Battle of Vitoria in 1813. From the collection of Apsley House, London.
