Légende

The Invasion - France, 1756. A group of French troops outside an inn. A monk is testing the sharpness of an axe, as he bends over a religious stature, and a plan for a monastery at Blackfriars in London. In the distance French troops board a ship, head for England. On the right a soldier roasts frogs over a fire. The flag above him refers to the good beer and beef to be had in England. This was one of two pictures that was issued as a reply to a rumour that France was going to invade. The other picture shows a similar scene in England.
