Légende

Marble head of Mithras, the Persian god of heavenly light. The worship of Mithras came to the Romans by way of Asia Minor, where he acquired the Phrygian cap he always wears. It was only one among many mystery religions introduced from the East. Mithraism was exceptional in that it insisted on a high moral code with emphasis on honesty, purity and courage. It was especially favoured by soldiers, officials and merchants.
