A detail from 'Westminster Election of 1788'. The man in the foreground is completely distracted by the woman to the left of him, who has caught his arm in order to show him a leaflet. A pickpocket is stealing from one of his pockets. A small boy in the left corner is crying whilst pointing at a dog who is eating something. Behind the distracted man a woman raises a glass and jug of ale. A dead cat has been thrown into the air by the boisterous crowd.
