Légende

Fidenza, duomo (Cattedrale di San Donnino), sculture tra il portale maggiore e quello di sinistra: la nicchia con il “Re David” di Benedetto Antelami.
Il profeta sorregge un cartiglio sul quale si legge la seguente iscrizione a lettere capitali: DAUID / PPHA / REX / HEC / PORTA / DOMINI / IUSTI: / INTRANT PEREAM (David Propheta Rex – Hec porta Domini iusti intrant per eam [Salmo 118 (117),20]).

Nella calotta della nicchia è la Presentazione di Gesù al Tempio.
Ai lati sono due formelle con le figura di un grifo e di un capricorno; al di sopra di esse si osserva un bassorilievo raffigurante verosimilmente un Angelo che mostra la via per Roma ad una famiglia di pellegrini ricchi.

Sopra una fascia ornata con motivi geometrici sono le lastre scolpite che danno inizio alla Storia di San Donnino:
Donnino incorona l'imperatore Massimiano in qualità di cubicularius (maestro di camera) e
Donnino chiede all'imperatore il permesso di mettersi totalmente al servizio di Cristo.

Ancora più in alto, sopra un'elegante fascia con decorazione a tralcio vegetale, troviamo le scene della Adorazione dei Magi e del Sogno di San Giuseppe che continuano idealmente il racconto del testo evangelico iniziato nella torre sinistra.

A sinistra, colonna con capitello con la scena di Daniele nella fossa dei leoni e statua di Simone Apostolo che indica la strada per Roma.

The prophet holds a scroll on which the following inscription can be read in capital letters: DAUID / PPHA / REX / HEC / PORTA / DOMINI / IUSTI: / INTRANT PEREAM (David Propheta Rex – Hec porta Domini iusti intrant per eam [Psalm 118 (117),20]).

In the dome of the niche is the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.

On the sides are two small panels with the figures of a griffin and a capricorn; above them is a bas-relief probably depicting an Angel showing the way to Rome to a family of rich pilgrims.

Above a band decorated with geometric motifs are the sculpted slabs that begin the Story of San Donnino:
Donnino crowns the emperor Maximian as cubicularius (master of the chamber)
Donnino asks the emperor for permission to put himself totally at the service of Christ.

Even higher up, above an elegant band with a vegetal vine decoration, we find the scenes of the Adoration of the Magi and the Dream of Saint Joseph that ideally continue the story of the evangelical text begun in the left tower.

On the left, a column with a capital with the scene of Daniel in the lions' den and a statue of Simon the Apostle indicating the road to Rome.
