The visit of the Persian couple Emperor Shah Reza Mohammed Pahlavi and Empress Farah Diba, who stayed in West Berlin for 24 hours on 2 June 1967, caused mass demonstrations. In serious clashes between the demonstrators and the police, 26-year-old student Benno Ohnesorg was shot dead by a police officer. His dead marks the beginning of the German Student Revolt.
