Undated portrait of the German painter and graphic artist Franz Marc. Co-founder of the "Blauer Reiter" (1911). His most important theme was the animal. In his encounters with Macke and Kandinsky and in his dialogue with Cubism and Delaunay, Marc found his own style. Marc was born in Munich on 8 February 1880 and died on 4 March 1916 during the Battle of Verdun in the First World War.
