People cheer at Hitler's arrival on Wilhelmplatz as Hitler returns from his Felsennest headquarters after the Armistice of Compiegne was signed that ended the western campaign in France in Berlin, Germany, 06 July 1940. The original Nazi propaganda text on the back of the picture reads: "The capital of the Reich received the victorious commander with cherring. On Saturday afternoon, the Reichs capital was marked by the return of the leader, the victor of the largest and most brilliant battle in German history. The streets through which the Fuhrer drove were filled with hundreds of thousands of people who cheered Adolf Hitler with an indescribable enthusiasm. Our picture shows the arrival of the motorcade on Wilhelmplatz. The roaring cries of gratitude by the crowd were thank you and a pledge to the victorious commander."
