German author Thomas Mann (undated filer). His first novel 'Buddenbrooks' (1901) made him world-famous. Other important works are 'Death in Venice' (1912), 'The Magic Mountain' (1924) and 'Confessions of Felix Krull' (1954). He received the Noble Prize in literature in 1929. As critic of the Nazi regime he emigrated to Switzerland in 1933 and later to the USA where he adopted the American citizenship in 1944. Mann was born in Luebeck on 6 June 1875 and died in Zurich on 12 August 1955.
