US soldiers and observers watch the manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army on the military training area Grafenwöhr on 5 February 1959. The highlight of the manoeuvre, in which about 60.000 soldiers participated, was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was simulated with shots of two "Honest John" missiles and 28cm shells. Around 40 NATO generals watched the simulation.
