NATO generals and officials during the manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army

Around 40 NATO generals as well as numerous officers and officials watch the manoeuvre "Free Play" of the US army on the military training area Grafenwöhr from the so-called "Feldherrenhügel" on 5 February 1959. The highlight of the manoeuvres, in which about 60.000 soldiers participated, was the simulation of a nuclear attack, which was simulated with shots of two "Honest John" missiles and 28cm shells.
