Ornithologist Dr Brouwer abandoning a shelduck near Knechtsand on 12th August 1955. An international ornithologist commission was visiting the molting site of the shelducks on Knechtsand to check the special feature of the ares for the bird population. The sandbank, where hundreds of thousands of seabirds live, is used by the British Army as a military exercise area.
