"Candy Pilot" Halvorsen is honor guest of airlift festival

Former airlift pilot Gail Halvorsen is holding little Adrene Hudson in his arm with a smile, on 14 May 1998, during the festivities for the 50th anniversary of the airlift on Berlin-Tempelhof airport. Halvorsen, who became famous as the "Candy Pilot", has flown food to the city during the Berlin Blockade 1948/49 and threw candy on small parachutes for the children.
