General field marshall and President of the Reich Paul von Hindenburg (l) and Adolf Hitler after Hitler's appointment as Imperial Chancellor on the 30th of January in 1933. Hindenburg was elected as president of Weimar Republic after a long and successful military career. On the 30th of January in 1933, the day which entered history as the Day the seizure of power through the National Socialists, he appointed Adolf Hitler as chancellor. After Hindenburg's death, the office of the president of Weimar Republic expired and merged with the office of the chancellor. Paul von Hindenburg was born on the 2nd of October in 1847 in Posen and died on the 2nd of August in 1934 in Neudeck (East Prussia).
