Schlageter celebration in Duesseldorf

A fire is burnt under a large cross in honour of Albert Leo Schlageter, executed in 1923 as "Martyr of the Occupation of the Ruhr" (undated). Schlageter, a member of the German Freikorps, who was close to the National Socialists, was sentenced to death by a French war trial on the 8th of May in 1923 because of participation in sabotage in the Ruhr Area and was court-martialled and shot at Golzheimer Heide near Duesseldorf on the 26th of May in 1923.
