In Yuanyang County, in China's southwestern Yunnan province, the Hani rice terraces stretch across about 16, 000 hectares along the mountainous slopes of the Honghe region. Shaped over more than a thousand years and composed of thousands of terraces, they were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013
