The map was created by the German-Dutch cartographer Andreas Cellarius (ca. 1596-1665) and shows the constellations of the southern hemisphere as allegorical figures, animals and objects depicted against the background of a globe (with South America and South Africa) . Astronomers and scientific instruments are depicted in the lower margin, digitally restored reproduction from a 17th century original, authentic, exact date of depiction unknown
