Historical celestial map depicting the Ptolemaic, geocentric, world view. The illustration comes from the atlas Harmonia Macrocosmica by the German-Dutch cartographer Andreas Cellarius and was originally published around 1660 or 1661. The planets Luna, Mercurii, Veneris, Solis, Martis, Iovis and Saturni move in rings around the Earth. The outer rings show the signs of the zodiac, Zodiacus. At the bottom left and right are allegorical figures, often interpreted as Ptolemy himself (right) and other ancient scholars, digitally restored reproduction from a 17th century model, authentic, exact date of depiction unknown
