Jurisprudence, torture and punishment in medieval China, method of punishment, often known as cangue in the West, was a form of public humiliation and corporal punishment widespread in imperial China. The wooden collar usually consisted of two heavy wooden plates, which were placed around the convict's neck and sealed. Wearers could not bring their hands to their mouths, which made them completely dependent on the help of third parties when eating and drinking.
