Altzella Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey west of the town of Nossen. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important monasteries in Central Germany. The monastery was dissolved as a result of the Reformation, the complex, with its partly well-preserved wall, is now a mixture of romantic park with ruins and renovated buildings. The remains of the monastery have been a listed building since the 1970s. Information boards point out special places where Caspar David Friedrich has already discovered his motifs, Nossen, Saxony, Germany
