On 13 and 14 February 1945, Dresden was heavily destroyed in three Allied bombing raids. Every year, the people of Dresden commemorate this event at various events. A long human chain symbolises the protection of the city centre. Candles are placed in front of the Church of Our Lady, Dresden, Saxony, Germany
