Photograph of the exterior of Broadcasting House, London, which at the time symbolised the practical progressiveness and modernity of the B. B. C.'s World-Wide Service. The basement of the building housed an air-conditioning plant and generators. The outer shell of the structure consisted of offices, surrounding a core of studios, while the upper storeys contained the control rooms and transmitter units, surmounted by a wireless aerial. In addition to this building the B.B.C. had accommodation in many of the adjoining houses, and used St. George's Hall and the Queen's Hall for many of its public variety hours and concerts.
