Beating sugar-canes for a hog by Samuel Howitt, 1765?-1822, artist 1807. etching and aquatint, hand-coloured, shows three men on horseback, carrying spears, waiting, as Natives systematically beat sugarcane with bamboo staffs and, with the aid of two dogs, drive a wild hog from cover past the waiting hunters. Also shown are two oxen yoked to a plough, fleeing for their own safety, and Natives around an irrigation well at the edge of the cane field
