Crimean (Russo-Turkish) War 1853-1856. French troops in the ditch of the Bastion du Mat after the fall of Sebastopol (Sevastopol). Sebastopol was under siege from October 1854 to 11 September 1855 when it fell to the Allied forces and the Russians retreated.
