Thomas Cavendish (1560-1592) English circumnavigator. Commanded one of the vessels sent by Walter Raleigh to establish a colony in Virginia. In 1586-1588 completed the third circumnavigation. Set out again from England on his second circumnavigation in 1591 but died at sea. Engraving.
