Akhona Nontsasa Mngweba was a light of hope to so many who knew her. Having contracted HIV which then developed into full-blown AIDS, against the tide of community opinion which keeps AIDS a secret, Akhona bravely proclaimed she was HIV positive and worked relentlessly to help others come to terms with the disease. Part of the community care programme at Project Gateway Akhona would visit from house to house in the townships around Pietermaritzburg sharing the hope she had found in Jesus
